Typography Notes

Design Typography

Serif font is best for smaller text, Sans Serif is for bigger font.

LEGIBILITY
Choose classical, time tested typefaces (font)

SERIF Has little wingdings on the letters. SANS SERIF doesn’t.

Too many fonts will confuse a reader and spoil the aesthetic

Fonts that are too similar cause ambiguity and make it boring.

Use UPPERCASE and lowercase appropriately.
All caps = yelling, so do it for titles and stuff like that.

ALIGNMENT
Left alignment reads easiest. Consider eyeflow when designing your text. Middle align is good in some cases. Right align is weird.

EMPHASIS TOOLS 1. Italics 2. BOLD 3. Size 4. Color 5. Typestyle Change

INTEGRITY
Avoid stretching and distorting text to maintain integrity.

HEAVY AND LIGHT FONT

Strive for a sense of balance in text balance. Dont change it too much.

KERNING
Space between letters
Using kerning makes your letters more uniform.

TRACKING
The space between multiple groups of letters

RAGS
Large blocks of text. You want the edges of text to look more uniform.
